Are there VA accredited lenders who work with the poor / bad credit?

My husband has bad credit from past mistakes that have been deducted from your registration yet. We had a default in the payment of a few last month, but now is speed and most of our debt paid (except a car loan and some smaller credit cards). I am looking for a reputable company with great experience, but there are so many companies VA mortgage online do not want to be fooled! Who did you take and how professional you?
